The narrative feels tangled and rushed, making it difficult to grasp completely due to some unusual editing choices. It seems this approach might be advantageous for Netflix, as repeated viewings appear necessary to piece together the plot and prepare for subsequent installments. While Season 1 has its strengths—particularly with characters like Invoker, Terrorblade, and the dragons—the storyline can be challenging. The voice acting is superb, creating some truly striking moments when combined with the music. However, the central heroes (Mirana and Devon) feel unoriginally derived from Castlevania, and the animation quality, especially during action sequences, doesn’t measure up. Season 2 sees Devon and Mirana develop past their initial roles as a bothersome, humorous pair reminiscent of Belmont and Sypha. The story incorporates elements similar to Game of Thrones—which works well—but ultimately fails to resolve storylines introduced earlier and introduces new plot developments and characters that only add to the confusion, with these individuals meeting untimely ends before any familiarity can be established. Given how series like Arcane have raised the standard for animated shows based on video games, Dota is noticeably lagging behind, although I still hold some hope for future seasons.
