The series Domina seems to be driven by a modern feminist perspective applied to a historical setting. It's my understanding that women in ancient Rome did possess some influence, but it was invariably constrained and directed by men—fathers, husbands, or other relatives. This show appears to avoid confronting this reality somewhat, choosing instead to focus on a made-up character who likely wouldn’t have been able to prosper or endure within the actual historical context. As is often the case, there's also the expected alteration of actors' ethnicities, which doesn't seem logical and ultimately detracts from any potential for believability that the series might otherwise possess. However, the narrative is adequate, and the performances are acceptable. The production values, including the sets and CGI, are impressive. Ultimately, it’s a historical fiction that essentially serves as uncomplicated contemporary entertainment.
