Down this narrow passage, a stone carving of a Buddhist guardian and a ginkgo tree, aged over centuries, offer a moment of serenity. People seek out this small, secluded place for various reasons: to pray for health, for financial success, or for harmony in their marriage; others simply come to quiet their minds. For three days, we spoke with visitors to under
