Synopsis

The streets of Naha, Okinawa, pulse with a vibrant chorus of languages at the "Worldwide Uchinanchu" festival. A thousand and three hundred Okinawan descendants have gathered from every corner of the globe for this celebration, a reunion of those who journeyed abroad in search of opportunity or displaced by the Second World War. Many are second and third generations, drawn back to connect with their ancestral homeland. On Kokusai Street, the festival's lively heart, we seek out their stories.
