While I’m certain this series isn't flawless, I awarded it my highest possible score because it has consistently met my expectations across all its seasons. There's a delicate balance at play; for the character of Doc Martin to feel authentic, he needs to demonstrate some growth and compassion, otherwise, why would the town or his romantic partner put up with him for so long? He’s undeniably an excellent physician, but he can't be unpleasant constantly. Even though Martin Clunes clearly carries the show with his unusual personality, it functions as a group effort, benefiting from strong performances by actors portraying eccentric individuals. Certain elements are familiar—guest characters often experience uncommon illnesses, and Doc typically has to make one or two urgent visits to patients’ homes each episode. I suspect that if I were to revisit the series from the start later on, I might spot some flaws, but for now, as I mentioned earlier, it's never let me down.
