"Dexter Resurrection" represents another effort to revive a show that was once very good, but with results that were easy to foresee. Right away, it’s hard to see this as being truly about Dexter himself. The story quickly shifts its attention to his son, who's working as a bellhop in New York City. This career choice seems odd, considering he's presented as someone withdrawn, antisocial, and preferring to be alone—traits that were already established in the earlier spin-off. Even stranger is how Dexter is simply released by a police officer who had previously gone to great lengths to track him down and apprehend him. Rather than pressing charges, she sends him a postcard saying she feels even with him now, essentially allowing him to continue his life as a serial killer. That's the kind of thing you’d expect a police officer to say, isn’t it? Essentially, this is another disappointing and unbelievable story that’s using the name of the much better original series. It also seems to be attempting to address current social issues, which only adds to the unpleasant feeling of something decaying from what was once a successful franchise. Ultimately, some things are best left untouched, because trying again can end up making fun of previous achievements. If you’re new to Dexter, I suggest watching the original series—it's really quite good.
