This prequel to Dexter holds up pretty well, especially when you consider how disappointing that New Blood thing was—or whatever they ended up calling it. It makes sense why they only did one season of that show. Naturally, being *Dexter*, there are a bunch of plot holes and unbelievable situations throughout. But honestly, that’s part of the appeal; if you're willing to overlook those things, it's still entertaining and keeps you hooked. It's definitely worth checking out. The casting choices are strange—some actors look incredibly alike. Seriously, the guy playing Angel and his lab partner? They could have been sent back in time together. Then there’s Deb; something just isn’t right with that portrayal. The actress who plays her in the newer series looks like she's severely underweight, while this younger actor seems to gain weight as the show goes on. It's noticeable, especially by episode ten! You’d think they would have included a clause about losing weight in her contract. Deb is my favorite part of the current *Dexter*, and Jennifer Carpenter always makes an impact. This actress has the attitude and swears like crazy, which is good, but she doesn’t resemble Deb at all. I'm curious to see if they plan on having her character develop a storyline about starving herself or something.
