This isn’t good, to put it mildly. The unimaginative and oddly named "Dexter Original Sin" lacks the subtlety of the initial show; it's more like a blunt instrument. The refined, nuanced approach that defined the original is mostly missing here. Instead, events are exaggerated, occasionally to the point of absurdity. There’s a scene where Dexter looks at a magazine featuring women, but then we see he’s actually captivated by clippings about serial killer Ted Bundy tucked between its pages. And his sister winds up heavily intoxicated at a party and in danger, but after Dexter intervenes, she's supposedly still capable of handling herself—which is clearly contradicted by what just happened. It’s this sort of simplistic, thoughtless material, mixed with some trendy social messaging, that drags the series down. As frequently happens, it’s disappointing because a talented group of actors has come together for this unfortunate production. Ultimately, all the elements needed to succeed can't compensate for the lack of a well-written, smart, and convincing narrative. I loved the original Dexter because it embodies everything that this hollow imitation isn’t. I strongly advise against watching it.
