The narrative flowed reasonably well during that first run. However, the second series was disappointing; it felt repetitive, and I began fast-forwarding through large sections. The third season showed a clear influence from American films that had gone too far. It's hard to believe that police officers in Northern Ireland would use helicopters for confrontations with impoverished people. The actresses seemed noticeably older than their characters’ ages, which might be attributed to difficulty finding younger performers willing to portray roles discussing sexuality. Now, the young female characters resemble women nearing thirty according to Derry’s social services standards. And they're worried about exam outcomes? Even a five-year-old should understand that life involves pushing a stroller in bad weather and occasionally working as a waitress.
