The series concluded prematurely; it possessed considerable promise, and the creators seemed to be establishing a foundation for what might have evolved into an excellent science fiction program—only to have it taken off the air. It’s typical of Syfy to discontinue their strongest offerings, and I suspect this is done so they can produce additional Sharknado films. The variety of alien species present allowed for some truly fascinating and unpredictable partnerships and complex narratives reminiscent of Shakespeare. The show could have gone in many directions if it had continued. Furthermore, the incorporation of older music—covers of previously released songs—enhanced the overall feel significantly. It also developed a dedicated fan base. That audience was steadily expanding. Ultimately, its run ended to make way for another Sharknado movie.
