This continuation of Pride and Prejudice, not written by Jane Austen, turned out to be surprisingly enjoyable. It presented a thoughtful adaptation of the well-known story and its characters, though honestly, anything less would have been disappointing given that it's based on a P.D. James novel. Because I frequently watch British television shows, many of the actors seemed recognizable, and they all performed very well together, sticking to their roles effectively. It seems like everyone involved—the director and the cast—had a good time, as they were able to recreate scenes from Pride and Prejudice as recollections. I noticed hints of character development throughout, but figures like the lively Lydia, the unscrupulous Wickham, and the theatrical Mrs. Bennett remained largely unchanged, so they are easily identifiable. The additional storylines contributed enough substance to be worthwhile, particularly one connected to a murder mystery, and that also holds true for some of the new characters introduced. Certain elements felt somewhat foreseeable, but there was at least one plot development that proved both sensible and unexpected. What else could you really want from a twist?
