With Alexander's passing, history mourns the loss of its greatest conqueror, the singular figure who extended the reach of his empire across Eurasia, the Mediterranean, and into India. Fragments of *The Romance of Alexander* have been discovered throughout a wide geographical area, from Persia and Arabia to the lands of the Latin world, and even in Mali.
