Dark Matter (2024) is a disappointing production that doesn’t succeed in most areas. It's obvious from the beginning that “nothing matters” within this tangled story blending low-quality science fiction and drawn-out family issues. The show suffers from substandard editing, with abrupt transitions and problems with its rhythm that make its already weak storyline seem even more disconnected. The characters lack vitality; they’re flat stereotypes who consistently do foolish things. The initial intriguing idea rapidly turns into an unintended source of humor, bogged down by constant, repetitive information about the family that eliminates any chance for excitement or tension. Instead of presenting worthwhile reasons to care, the show takes viewers through a confusing plot that doesn't manage to convey anything—assuming it had something to say in the first place. Efforts at creating dramatic moments seem absurd, leaving people feeling more annoyed than amused. Lacking purpose and resolution, Dark Matter falls into a pit of ordinariness. It’s an unproductive use of time and effort—an experience without enjoyment or insight. What might have been an interesting look at large-scale and philosophical ideas instead becomes a sad example of how not to create television. Steer clear of this series entirely.
