It’s hard to imagine anyone else taking on the role of Da Li; she truly infused the character with a distinct personality and presence, elevating the series. The male lead also did a commendable job, though his occasionally over-the-top delivery started to become irritating. I had reservations about the romantic storyline, specifically because it felt forced at various points—from their initial kiss onward, through sharing painful experiences and everything that followed. There was one particular musical cue they used throughout that really worked well with the overall atmosphere, but its absence in the latter part of the story was disappointing.
