Synopsis

In the vestry of St Matthew's Church, Paddington, two corpses were discovered, their throats brutally slashed. The deceased were Sir Paul Berowne, a baronet and former Tory MP, and Harry Mack, a homeless man. Eight-year-old Darren and Miss Wharton, the churchwarden, made the grim finding. Inspector Dalgliesh was summoned to the scene, joined by Detective Sergeant Masterson and the newly assigned Detective Constable Kate Miskin, to unravel the mystery of their deaths.
