Synopsis

Dalgliesh discovered a library book and a letter in Fallon's room and Pearce’s pigeonhole, respectively. The letter detailed a patient of Courtney-Briggs named Martin Dettinger, whose recent death on the hospital ward had deeply affected her. Later, he found rose spray – Chopra confirmed it was the poison used to kill Fallon. In the woods, Dalgliesh was subjected to a brutal assault.
