I often find myself checking out British mystery shows simply because there are so many good ones. That’s why I decided to watch Dalgliesh. It's a decent program. The main character is reserved and seems distant, stemming from a loss he experienced the previous year. I didn’t connect with him right away like I have with other detectives such as Vera or even DCI Banks; at times, he appeared hesitant or lacking in initiative. His colleague isn’t particularly pleasant and hindered the inquiries due to his small-minded selfishness, but Dalgliesh seemed powerless to assert himself, aside from one moment when I wanted to scold him. People being questioned also didn't treat him with much consideration during questioning and discussions. It’s possible that some of this perceived weakness or passivity is amplified because he’s still processing his sorrow. And Dalgliesh might eventually win me over, so if the series gets renewed, I’ll watch again.
