Synopsis

Godfrey disclosed that he had been a Conscientious Objector throughout the First World War, a revelation that prompted Mainwaring and several members of the platoon to regard him with suspicion, even accuse him of cowardice. Yet, during a training exercise, when Mainwaring succumbed to smoke inhalation, it was Godfrey who, disregarding his own safety, intervened to save him.
