In 1956, "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" established itself as an innovative film by exploring fears rooted in something that seems recognizable yet is also strange and threatening. “Curon” follows a comparable trajectory, though it doesn’t involve extraterrestrials—familiar people are swapped out for others who are essentially their own doppelgangers. The presentation is skillful, even if occasionally the approach feels somewhat forceful. The characters sometimes come across as exaggerated and lacking subtlety; I believe a more delicate touch would have actually amplified the feeling of dread and growing fear. The visuals and setting are effective—it's an appealing experience to watch, with a picturesque rural environment contrasted against industrial-style military ruins and fortifications that create an unsettling atmosphere. This provides a good contrast for a story about the duality of human nature. I do want to mention there’s a bit of socially conscious messaging present, which some might find awkward or preachy. I personally think this series would have been stronger without it. Despite that, it's generally an enjoyable show geared toward teenagers and young adults but with enough depth for older viewers as well. 6/10.
