At 6:36 PM, Officer Matt Weber received a shooting call. He’d grown up in a small farming town in central Illinois, a place devoid of even a single traffic light, and after six years on the force, nothing could truly prepare him for the realities of street work. The report indicated a suspect armed with a rifle. Arriving at the scene, he found a group of Black men stating the individual had fled, while two men lay wounded on the ground. He and another unit proceeded to the location where the sus
