I went into watching this series with modest hopes, or maybe no real expectations at all. I was simply looking for an enjoyable, inexpensive revisit of familiar material. However, the show turned out to be far better than that. Everything about it is well-done—the visuals, the actors chosen, the storyline, the script, the overall feel, the rhythm, the performances, and the music. It’s excellent from beginning to end, embodying what Mr. Miyagi instructed us on: equilibrium. The series manages to get so many elements correct without overdoing anything; the humor is perfect, the heartfelt scenes are perfectly timed, the campiness is spot-on, and the action sequences work well too. It also does a commendable job of letting viewers determine who the true heroes and antagonists are because, in contrast to the films, there aren’t clear distinctions here. Those familiar with the movies will likely find it very entertaining. Even if you haven't seen those earlier works, chances are you'll still appreciate this series. It functions well independently while also feeling current, but as a continuation of the story 30 years later, it accomplishes this exceptionally well and with great reverence for its origins without depending on them too much.
