At a time when prejudice, anxiety, and the concept of barriers are becoming increasingly prevalent, **Cleverman** examines questions of belonging and assimilation through a fantastical setting that offers a fresh take on traditional Australian Aboriginal stories. I consider **Cleverman** to be well worth watching, but I feel that the initial run of 6 episodes didn't fully do justice to the depth of the story threads and characters presented, which makes the show’s continuation such welcome news. As events become more like something out of a novel, **Cleverman** draws viewers into a fight for survival against an environment resembling those depicted in Orwell’s works. Although some of the initial feeling might have faded, this second season expands the world and adds layers to the political narratives while blurring the distinction between what is real and imagined. Throughout, supernatural elements gain prominence, and **Cleverman** takes center stage both within and beyond the story itself.
