The FX series Class of '09 effectively weaves together different points in time to tell its story. The initial introduction of just two timelines within the first few minutes helped make understanding what unfolded in the first couple of episodes simpler. Kate Mara delivers a strong performance as Poet, which easily draws viewers into the third timeframe—2023—without creating any jarring shifts. It’s possible that the narrative could have worked well without the jumps between eras, but it feels more engaging presented this way and enhances the dystopian elements set in 2034. The creative team and cast did a commendable job portraying the positive aspects of 2009 alongside the negative realities of 2034, while only hinting at what’s to come with a compelling ending to episode two. This approach made the series exciting and enjoyable. Creating a show like this is challenging, and it often struggles to maintain clarity with constant shifts in time, but this limited series from FX might be an exception. I'm eager to see how the story continues.
