Citadel doesn't manage to be a genuine spy thriller, despite trying to appear as such. It’s essentially a standard, formulaic action series that favors American interests, and includes some expected, irritating attempts at incorporating contemporary social themes. The performances are acceptable, and the action sequences aren’t bad either, but there's not much in the way of inventive or thoughtful narrative to be found. As you might expect, after a few episodes focused on explaining everything, the show begins to feel like it's repeating itself. Ultimately, this is just another flashy but empty American production that can provide mild entertainment at face value.
