Synopsis

Since its inception, Chicago has borne the burden of its own waste. Residents and industries alike discharged refuse directly into the Chicago River, which then emptied into Lake Michigan. This practice poisoned the city's water supply, fostering disease and claiming countless lives. This film examines the diverse efforts to address this crisis, culminating in a daring proposition: to reverse the river's course, diverting it away from the lake.
