I thought this show was remarkably impressive and had a real chance to become one of HBO’s finest productions. I would honestly choose these first two seasons over most of what the network has released. The level of imagination and care put into it is rarely seen on television. Sadly, those seasons built up to incredible moments that never actually happened. Just when things seemed ready to reach a satisfying conclusion, *Carnivàle* was taken off the air. Apparently, audiences didn’t connect with it; they found it too deliberate, intelligent, and unconventional for its time. To me, this represents one of television's greatest missed opportunities. I still enjoy these seasons, but knowing that the narrative never reached a proper resolution makes rewatching them less satisfying. Even so, I can’t bring myself to give it a lower rating because what we *did* receive was exceptionally well done.
