Synopsis

Candy refused Mr. Cartwright's proposition. A calling to teach resonated within her, yet George soon sought her out. Under the rain's downpour, she fled with Jimmy, already weakened and whose illness deepened with each passing day. She was, perhaps, not yet ready for the responsibilities of a teacher, but remained devoted to Jimmy until his health improved. Afterward, she departed with George.
