Synopsis

The train slowed, then stopped altogether. Tom’s cows were again crossing the tracks. As Candy recognized him, she spoke of her destination, and Tom cautioned her against going to Graytown. He spoke of harsh conditions there, rife with criminals. He added that Mrs. Pony was gravely ill. He assisted Candy in mounting a horse, urging her onward to Pony’s Home. Cresting Pony Hill, Candy saw a cross marking a grave – Mrs. Pony’s resting place, it seemed. But Sister Mary found her weeping and explain
