Synopsis

The central narrative concerns a successful swindler whose fortunes sour when he is apprehended during an escape, his luggage revealing nothing of worth. A secondary thread follows one of the officers working alongside him – a man Mary Beth has known since their time at the academy – who is abusing his wife.
