Synopsis

When Shrewsbury’s goldsmith is attacked and left for dead, suspicion falls upon the townspeople, igniting a frenzy of accusations. Hunted by the increasingly volatile crowd, a young juggler—who had entertained at the goldsmith's son’s wedding—flees to the Abbey seeking refuge. Yet, as Cadfael begins his inquiries, a second body is discovered, drifting in the River Severn.
