Synopsis

Cesare and the King of France arrange their weddings for the same day – the Feast of the Assumption, a time invariably marked by persistent rain. Cardinal Orsini, gravely ill, is consumed by anxieties about the afterlife, haunted by reflections on his dealings with both friends and foes of the Pope. Lucrezia skillfully leverages the widespread hope engendered by salvation and forgiveness to alleviate mounting political tensions.
