Synopsis

Joshua Norton, a peculiar former merchant from San Francisco—a man who styled himself Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico—arrives at the Ponderosa. Local officials are determined to have him declared unfit, and Ben Cartwright reaches out to Mark Twain, hoping he will speak on Norton’s behalf and attest to his sanity.
