The Bodies manages to capture something essential about time-travel stories, employing a traditional British style of writing. It isn't as intricate or layered as shows like the acclaimed German series Dark; however, it’s still captivating enough to draw you in, centering around a body discovered across three different periods, with consequences that come at a steep cost for the future. The production values are solid, particularly the costumes and settings, though they occasionally feel constrained. There are some subplots concerning the detectives' personal lives—no computer-generated imagery until near the very end. While it doesn’t introduce anything entirely new to time-travel science fiction, it is competently crafted and generally resolves its plotlines satisfactorily. A positive aspect is that the series takes its time to explain events and tie up loose ends; though this resolution occurs primarily in the later episodes and reveals several inconsistencies and plot holes—like the questionable choice of sending a disabled person through time. Perhaps the best course would have been to present it as a standalone story, concluding without a second season, which has become standard practice for many Netflix shows. However, it could have benefited from exploring the detectives' internal struggles in greater depth; some storylines feel drawn out, and certain choices seem illogical while the jumps in time between characters occasionally defy believability—for instance, the 1891 detective’s wife and daughter appearing to be the same age. The acting is generally quite good. Despite this, it's a worthwhile use of your time, although the final episode feels somewhat rushed. It receives a rating of 7.1 out of 10, or a B grade.
