Beyond Paradise extends the initial Death in Paradise television program, which is known for its gentle British humor. The show maintains a straightforward mystery format, relocating a central figure from the Caribbean-set original to the English countryside of Devon. The character retains his established quirks and disheveled nature while still being portrayed as an exceptionally skilled investigator. Generally, this new series functions adequately as something to watch on British television during Sunday evenings. It doesn’t have the same sense of foreign locale as its predecessor, but the detective's inherent appeal helps compensate for that. The narratives are fairly standard and uncomplicated crime stories, with a subtle romantic subplot included. Unfortunately, there is a small amount of what some might consider overly progressive content, though it isn't excessive enough to make the show unwatchable. Ultimately, while not as lively as the series it builds upon, it still provides sufficient entertainment value for an enjoyable crime adventure. It’s worth checking out.
