The campus debate season had begun with a surge of momentum. Josh’s absence, due to a mechanical failure, unexpectedly propelled the duo's campaign forward. Alex Diaz, a fellow student senator and organizer of a competing bid, saw this sudden success as a threat and attempted to derail their efforts. He threatened to reveal an unpublished article detailing Josh's accusation that Brandon had engaged in academic dishonesty on behalf of D'Shawn. Andrea worried that Brandon no longer valued her
