I’m struggling to think of another program that achieves such a high level of quality when it comes to its writing, visuals, and editing. Many of the camera angles were quite unusual, yet they remained exceptional and flawlessly executed. I especially appreciated how wide-angle extreme long shots were used. Each episode seemed to discover an inventive location for the camera, in ways that felt entirely new to me. Quite a few episodes begin with remarkably extended takes. The low-key lighting is visually striking. Lighting also serves a symbolic purpose, which was a welcome addition. The narrative can be difficult to experience at times, but not negatively so; it becomes more emotionally challenging as the story progresses, although not quite to the extent of *Breaking Bad*. I was consistently impressed by the feats Jimmy accomplishes, regardless of how worrisome they appeared. The characters are considerably more developed. They each receive opportunities to stand out and be understood. And every element of the plot eventually connects with everything else. The rhythm initially took some adjustment, but now I value it greatly. When I first watched the initial two seasons, I had difficulty staying awake, but after rewatching them, I found myself much more engaged once I’d become accustomed to the pace. There are also numerous well-crafted montages; one in particular felt somewhat over-the-top, which was likely intentional, while the others linger in my thoughts like a screensaver. The music is excellent, and songs played during certain scenes create a genuinely cool, somber atmosphere. Ultimately, *Better Call Saul* is probably among the most cleverly made shows; it might not appeal to all viewers, but it’s undeniably impressive.
