It seems this new series has faced some criticism related to the challenges of remakes; apparently, some viewers prefer their beloved shows either unchanged or untouched by revival efforts. Like many people, I have a fondness for older programs, but when I began watching the original, I found myself drifting off. That’s not entirely true, though – the initial episode seemed like something I might eventually get around to watching, given my packed schedule. Regarding this updated version, we've been consuming quite a few British detective shows lately and found this one enjoyable enough to watch in spurts over a couple of days. I do find myself growing weary of certain recurring elements common in these kinds of programs: the detective prioritizing work over family, the introduction of fresh suspects each week, unexpected turns in the story – you name it. However, I understand that’s often what viewers anticipate; intricate plots and complex narratives can feel tedious. My perspective on this is likely influenced by my own attempts at writing novels during my free time (though certainly not thrillers!). I've always appreciated Zoe Wanamaker, and she delivers a particularly strong performance here, almost overshadowing Bergerac’s child to underscore his need for perspective. The competitive dynamic between the two main detectives occasionally felt somewhat contrived, but thankfully their connection did evolve as the series progressed. Overall, I enjoyed the show, and you might too if you decide to check it out. Just set aside any thoughts about John Nettles and give Damian Molony a fair opportunity.
