It would be unfair to suggest Julian Fellowes has simply become proficient at producing historical dramas following Downton Abbey; his more recent efforts demonstrate a genuine skill. He develops characters and families that feel authentic and believable, crafting inventive narratives for them. These are stories about ordinary people, yet they’re interwoven with significant events from the past, like the Battle of Waterloo here. I did notice some moments where the storyline felt somewhat foreseeable—after all, human behavior can often be predictable—but there were also a few unexpected turns that I genuinely didn't see coming. While it’s unlikely I’ll revisit the series, it kept me engaged from beginning to end, and managed to do so without resorting to excessive violence or harsh language. I look forward to seeing what Mr. Fellowes does next.
