Synopsis

The discovery of a narcotics smuggling ring culminated in a fatal shooting; the driver, it emerged, was Superintendent Martin Beck’s son. Overwhelmed by grief, Beck withdrew from the investigation, only to be persuaded to return by the pleas of his colleagues.
