Synopsis

Tom Service marks the arrival of the 20th century in his exploration of Masterworks at the Proms, guided by the music of Jean Sibelius and William Walton. Canadian violinist James Ehnes presents Walton's compelling violin concerto, while Thomas Sondergard leads the National Orchestra of Wales in two compositions by Sibelius: the ethereal tone poem *The Swan of Tuonela*, and his Fifth Symphony, distinguished by its evocative and ecstatic 'swan theme'.
