Synopsis

For the first of two performances with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, Principal Conductor Thomas Søndergård will lead the orchestra in a monumental work by a Scandinavian composer: Nielsen's Fifth Symphony. The symphony delves into a profound bleakness that resonates with the somber beauty of Strauss’s tone poem, *Tod und Verklärung*. The concert program also features Strauss’s youthful *Burleske* and Mozart’s bright Rondo in A major, both accompanied by pianist Francesco Piemontesi.
