Synopsis

As Tom Service navigates the turn of the 20th century through the Masterworks at the Proms, he encounters the music of Jean Sibelius and William Walton. Canadian violinist James Ehnes presents Walton's compelling violin concerto, while Thomas Sondergard leads the National Orchestra of Wales in two compositions by Sibelius: the ethereal tone poem *The Swan of Tuonela*, and his Fifth Symphony, distinguished by its poignant and uplifting 'swan theme'.
