Katie Derham welcomes the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester to the Royal Albert Hall. This ensemble gathers some of Europe’s most promising young musicians, consistently recognized as one of the world's most musically compelling and refined youth orchestras. Under the direction of Philippe Jordan, the orchestra presents Wagner’s Rienzi Overture and Shostakovich’s Fifth Symphony, with French pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet lending his artistry to Ravel’s Piano Concerto in G Major, a work imbued with a di
