Synopsis

At the Royal Albert Hall, the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of Donald Runnicles, presents two significant works by Wagner and Bruckner. Wagner's Siegfried Idyll, a gift to his wife Cosima, is performed in its original, simplified orchestration—much as she would have heard it on Christmas morning in 1870. Bruckner’s monumental 8th Symphony, arguably his finest, was the last symphony he completed. The concert is presented by Charles Hazlewood.
