Daniel Barenboim’s comprehensive cycle of Beethoven’s symphonies has now reached its halfway point. He conducts the West-Eastern Divan Orchestra, a collaborative ensemble of young Arab and Israeli musicians, in a program featuring both the Pastoral Symphony and Beethoven’s Fifth, arguably the most recognizable of all orchestral works. The concert also includes two brief compositions by Pierre Boulez: *Memoriale* for flute and ensemble, and *Messagesquisse*, which highlights the exceptional skill
