Synopsis

Katie Derham introduces a concert at the Royal Albert Hall in London, a performance of Mahler’s Symphony No. 8, the Symphony of a Thousand. This monumental choral work, requiring orchestra, massed choirs, and eight soloists, marks the beginning of celebrations commemorating the 150th anniversary of Mahler's birth. Conducting from the podium is Jiri Belohlavek, chief conductor of the BBC Symphony Orchestra.
