Synopsis

Beethoven’s and Tchaikovsky’s minor-key Fifth Symphonies, both meditations on humanity's confrontation with destiny and the inevitable victory of hope over despair, are featured. Christoph Eschenbach conducts the Philadelphia Orchestra, and he joins host Charles Hazlewood for a conversation during intermission.
