Synopsis

The Philadelphia Orchestra, conducted by Christoph Eschenbach, performs Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and Matthias Pintscher’s *Hérodiade-Fragmente*, drawn from the poetry of Mallarmé. The BBC Symphony Chorus joins the orchestra for the Ninth's setting of Schiller's "Ode to Joy." The solo vocalists for this movement are Marisol Montalvo (soprano), Yvonne Naef (mezzo-soprano), Nikolai Schukoff (tenor), and Franz-Josef Selig (bass).
