Synopsis

The Tonhalle Orchestra of Zurich returns with a program featuring works by Wagner, Beethoven, and Richard Strauss. Under the direction of David Zinman, the orchestra opens with Wagner's turbulent overture to *The Flying Dutchman*, followed by Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 in C Minor, with pianist Emanuel Ax. The concert concludes with the powerful opening of Richard Strauss’s tone poem, *Also Sprach Zarathustra*, famously associated with Stanley Kubrick's *2001: A Space Odyssey*. Alan Titchma
