Synopsis

From the Royal Albert Hall in London, the Proms begin this week with a series of nightly concerts. The program features Bruch's celebrated first violin concerto in the first half, opening with Berlioz's Overture – Roman Carnival. The second half presents Messiaen's *L'ascension* and Ravel's *La Valse*. The performance is given by the Orchestre Philharmonique de Radio France, with violinist Kyung-Wha Chung, conducted by her brother Myung-Whun Chung.
